The School of Law and Social Sciences at Birmingham City University is a large, vibrant, collegiate, and diverse community of legal scholarship, learning and practice with a strong commitment to excellence, innovation and transformation through legal professional practice and education. The Department of Law provides academic and professional legal education across all levels, from foundation year to PhD, including our flagship LLB and LLM programmes including an exciting SQE offer. The Department is home to well over a thousand students, and has trained many of the legal professionals in the region and beyond.
The Department is currently looking to appoint 2 Lecturers in Law. The successful candidate will contribute to all areas of activity, in particular teaching on our LLB and LLM Programmes. We would particularly encourage applications from candidates with a passion for transformative legal education and an interest in research aligned to our key strengths. More specifically, applicants should have the ability to teach in at least one of the core LLB subjects and a willingness to contribute to our growing elective offering.
The Department has a proud tradition of professional legal education and works closely with the legal profession both locally and globally. We are extremely proud of the fusion of teaching, practice and research which provides a high-quality student experience producing excellent outcomes. The Department has an applied and focused philosophy regarding teaching and our entire suite of undergraduate programmes has recently been redesigned to allow students to enjoy a curriculum which reflects the legal professional practice expertise of the Department.
Informal enquiries regarding the role should be addressed to Prof. Craig Newbery-Jones (craig.newbery-jones@bcu.ac.uk), Head of the Law Department.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and to an environment that supports lawful free speech and academic freedom. We will continuously review and improve our policies, practices, and procedures to ensure that we are promoting these in all aspects of our operations. We believe that by working together, combining our many different backgrounds and life experiences, we will empower each other to reach our full potential.
