This post is based at Leahurst Farm Animal Practice (LFAP), at the University of Liverpool’s Leahurst Campus on the Wirral. It can be adapted to be suitable for either a Resident (3 years) or an Intern (1 year) dependant on the applicant’s career stage and circumstances.
You will take part in the day-to-day work of the practice, including first opinion management of medical and surgical cases and herd/flock health whilst being supported by specialists, diploma and certificate holders. There will also be ample opportunity to be involved in referral cases.
An important aspect of the role is teaching undergraduate students in small groups whilst carrying out clinical work and giving tutorials, lots of support and training will be given.
Residents will be supervised during training for a diploma level qualification. For example, the European Diploma in Bovine Health and Welfare or the University of Liverpool’s Diploma in Bovine Reproduction. However, we don’t stipulate which qualification you do and are open to ideas, for example one resident did an MSc in Epidemiology. Interns who have not yet completed VetGDP will be given support to accomplish this obligatory programme.
For the resident post approximately 25% of your working time will be off clinic. This time can be devoted to clinical research projects and other work in relation to obtaining a further qualification, preparation of teaching material, and student assessment as appropriate, and will include annual leave of 30 days per annum.
The Intern position has 30 days annual leave per annum. In addition, each post has leave for university closure days including bank holidays and the Christmas period (other than those covered on call on a shared rota).
The post-holder will participate in the out out-of-hours duty on a rota, currently 1 in 5 nights and weekends, for which a supplement is paid.
You should hold RCVS membership to practice in the UK by the time you start in the role.
The post is available for 1 year (Internship) or 3 years (Resident).
The preferred start date is 27th July 2026.
