Location: Oxford
Salary: £35,681 to £41,636 per annum, Grade 6
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 16th January 2026
Closes: 12th February 2026

About the role

We seek an enthusiastic Biobanker to join the NDS Bioresource (NDSB) and support the Oxford Radcliffe Biobank (ORB), providing a comprehensive, end-to-end biobanking service for researchers collaborating with ORB and the wider NDSB team. This post offers an exciting opportunity to use your sample handling expertise and excellent communication skills to contribute to a key translational research resource, making a real difference to the delivery of research results.

Working as part of the surgical research team and alongside other Biobankers, you will provide flexible operational support across Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHT) hospital and clinic sites. Under the direction of the ORB Biobank Co-ordinator and operational leads, you will support ethically approved collection and use of human tissue and blood samples for both academic and commercial research. This includes participant identification and consent, sample collection and processing, data management, and ongoing liaison with clinical and research stakeholders.

The role requires meticulous attention to detail, robust record-keeping, and strict adherence to standard operating procedures and quality standards. You will work across a range of surgical specialties as service needs evolve, supporting a portfolio of translational research studies. While elements of the role involve coordination and project support, it is primarily a service-focused technical post, with a strong emphasis on reliability, consistency, and high-quality delivery.

About you

You will be educated to degree level in a relevant scientific subject, or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge through relevant experience. You will have experience of working with human biological samples in a laboratory or clinical research environment and be confident following written procedures and maintaining accurate records.

You will be comfortable in patient-facing settings, with experience of informed consent or other clinical interactions, and able to communicate clearly and sensitively with patients, clinicians, and researchers. Experience in histological techniques, phlebotomy, audits, or biobanking quality systems is desirable but not essential, and training will be provided where appropriate.

The post is available immediately and is fixed term until 31st March 2028 in the first instance. For a full list of responsibilities and selection criteria, please refer to the attached Job Description.
