About the Role
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in a research team led by Professor Greg Towers. The team's aim is to study all aspects of molecular biology of HIV infection and innate immune sensing with a focus on comparing the behaviour of pandemic and non-pandemic HIV lineages. Key goals are understanding mechanisms of adaptation to host and innate immune escape and understanding cell biology of antiviral response that is unleashed when innate immune sensors are triggered. Specific projects are designed considering the interests and experience of the postholder and collaborators with a view to taking the most tractable approaches to making the highest impact discoveries. The post-holder will be expected to perform high quality research under the direction of the Principal Investigator, and work effectively with group members and external collaborators. They will also contribute to the supervision of students undertaking projects in the lab.
About You
The postholder should have a PhD (or about to be awarded) in a relevant subject. The position will suit an ambitious postdoctoral scientist who wishes to develop their career through applications for independent fellowships. The project focuses on using infection models to study innate immunity, and we welcome applicants without specific virology or immunology experience where their technical experience and interests are relevant. Applicants with experience working with HIV or other viruses or innate immunity or structural biology are particularly encouraged to apply. Collaboration with structural biologists is expected to be key to this programme. Candidates must have excellent oral and written scientific communications skills, commitment to collaboration in research and to taking a multidisciplinary approach to problem solving.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
