Study Abroad, a division of Boston University Global Programs, is responsible for developing and providing opportunities for undergraduate study around the world. BU Study Abroad offers students from Boston University and over 100 other colleges and universities 200+ programs, 30+ cities, and 20+ countries. Boston University was one of the first universities in the United States to send students abroad, and the first university to offer study abroad internship opportunities on several continents. The range of subjects covered includes Advertising and PR, Computer Science, Economics & Finance, Film, Radio, Journalism, Mathematics and Statistics and Psychology and Health Sciences.

Role Outline

Boston University Study Abroad London is seeking a lecturer to redesign and teach an elective course in Global Health as part of our Fall 2026 London Internship Programme for American study abroad students. 

The new Lecturer will be required to adapt the existing Sargent College course, Introduction to Global Health, currently offered in Boston, for delivery in London. Preparatory work will be undertaken during Spring 2026, ahead of the first delivery in Fall 2026.

The Introduction to Global Health course will run in the Fall semester only. Teaching is due to commence on 1^st September 2026. The course will be delivered in a 5-week pattern on Mondays and Tuesdays (AM or PM), amounting to 40 classroom contact hours across ten sessions in total, plus final exam coverage for the course, which concludes on Friday 2^nd October.

This is a temporary appointment with the potential to be renewed.

Introduction to Global Health:

This course will provide students with an overview of the complex social, economic, political, environmental, and biological factors that structure the origins, consequences, and possible treatments of illness worldwide, as well as the promotion of health. Students will learn about the major themes and concepts shaping the interdisciplinary field of global health, and will gain an understanding of solutions to health challenges that have been successfully implemented in different parts of the world. This course draws upon the interdisciplinary nature of global health, incorporating perspectives from medical anthropology, development economics, infectious disease epidemiology, and public health biology to grapple with some of the biggest challenges in global public health today. Major topics will include the linkages between global health and economic development, the global burden of disease, key actors in global health, and lessons learned from the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Required Skills

The successful candidate will be a highly skilled, confident, and accomplished lecturer in Global Health, with a proven track record in innovative, student-centred pedagogy. A PhD in a relevant discipline is required. Applicants should possess excellent cross-cultural communication skills and a strong record of undergraduate teaching, ideally with experience supporting international or Study Abroad students.
