Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering

Manchester Metropolitan University – Department of Engineering

Manchester Metropolitan University is a modern, ambitious institution committed to delivering excellent education and research with impact. We are now seeking a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering to provide academic leadership in the development and launch of a new BEng Aerospace Engineering programme.

This is a pivotal role within the Department of Engineering and central to our strategic ambition to grow our engineering portfolio in high-impact, high-growth disciplines aligned with regional, national and global skills needs.

About the role

As a Senior Lecturer on the Education, Practice and Citizenship pathway, you will lead and deliver high-quality, research-informed education, grounded in contemporary aerospace engineering practice and professional accreditation requirements.

You will take a leading role in curriculum design and programme development, ensuring strong engineering fundamentals, industry relevance and alignment with professional body expectations. You will champion pedagogical innovation, embedding authentic learning, laboratory-based education, digital tools and employability-focused assessment into the student experience.

Alongside teaching and curriculum leadership, you will contribute to academic leadership within the Department and Faculty, supporting colleagues, enhancing academic culture and contributing to recruitment, retention and graduate outcomes.

Education, practice and impact

You will deliver inspiring teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate provision, provide personal tutoring and pastoral support, and lead modules and programmes as required. You will engage in scholarship related to education and practice, disseminating your work through appropriate scholarly and professional channels, and contributing to the enhancement of higher education policy and practice.

The role offers opportunities to build external partnerships with industry, professional bodies and academic networks, contributing to the University's growing reputation in aerospace engineering education.

About you

  • A good first degree and a PhD in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent industrial experience
  • Experience of teaching aerospace engineering in higher education or an equivalent context
  • Evidence of curriculum leadership or emerging academic leadership experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire students and collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners
  • A commitment to inclusive, student-centred education and academic citizenship

A recognised teaching qualification (or commitment to achieving Fellowship of the HEA within three years) is essential. Membership of relevant professional bodies, such as the Royal Aeronautical Society, and experience of external engagement or funding activity would be advantageous.
