About the Post

We seek to appoint a well-qualified and student-centred Senior Lecturer to contribute both to the teaching and development of our undergraduate law programmes (0.6 FTE) and to become Director of the Legal Advice Centre (0.4 FTE). You should be a qualified solicitor for the role to supervise students in the Legal Advice Centre. In partnership with the UG and PG Course Leaders, you will also play a key role in planning and running our Annual Law Lecture.

We invite applications from candidates with expertise in company law, contract law, legal ethics, or family law. The successful applicant will also supervise dissertations at undergraduate and postgraduate level and will supervise two student placements in the Legal Advice Centre each year as part of our Legal Placement module.

About the Team

You will be joining a friendly, ambitious, and innovative course team where we offer undergraduate and postgraduate law courses with a focus on practitioner professional skills. We have a strong Legal Advice Centre which gives students the opportunity for real world experience throughout all levels of study.

Many modules make good use of our mock courtroom, and the team has a clear focus on developing legal skills and preparing students for a legal career. The law team is in a wider School that offers a portfolio that includes law, criminology, sociology, business, and education courses driven by the interests and passions of an interdisciplinary staff team.  Our School is all about making a difference in the world. This is reflected in the range of subjects we teach, our interest in social justice, and our focus on how to make life better and fairer. The law team are collegiate, and student and law skills-focused with a passion for developing an innovative law curriculum.

About You

- You should be focused on student success and legal skills development as an integrated part of our courses.
- You should be able to lead the Legal Advice Centre with its portfolio of legal advice, currently developing the skills of students in the fields of family law and business start-ups, as well as oversee the portfolio of knowledge exchange activities, working closely with a Senior Research Fellow.
- You will develop relationships with pro bono solicitors, charities, and local organisations (i.e. local prisons) to develop the portfolio of advice opportunities for students.
- You will be an enthusiastic, friendly, innovative and talented qualified solicitor with teaching experience or equivalent.
- You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be committed to the delivery of outstanding teaching and the provision of an excellent student experience.
