About the role

The Project Administrator to the project on “Technological Processes and Social Organisation in Early Northern China” is the lead administrative role for this strategically important research project. Based in the School of Archaeology at the University of Oxford, the team will conduct interdisciplinary research on prehistoric northern/northwest China, combining methods from archaeology, anthropology, and material sciences. Work will include creating and adding data to a project database, communicating research plans and progress updates regularly, preparing research results for conference presentation and publication, engaging with specialists from around the world, including relevant individuals and communities in China, and supporting the organisation of the large conference at the end of the project.

About you

As Project Administrator, you will lead all project management and administrative functions for the group and act as the primary liaison for UK and international stakeholders. You will coordinate collaborative activities, manage finances and reporting, and provide support to the Co-Investigators. You will oversee multiple research projects, ensuring milestones are met and funder requirements fulfilled, while maintaining accurate records of deliverables, risk registers, and financial schedules.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Project Coordination: Organise and chair monthly meetings, prepare agendas, minutes, and annual reports, and manage hybrid functionality for international collaboration.
  • Finance Management: Working with the Head of Administration and Finance for the School of Archaeology to track budgets, reconcile invoices, and produce expenditure reports in line with university and sponsor requirements.
  • HR Administration: Support in-post management of team members.

This position is ideal for a highly organised individual with strong communication skills and experience in managing complex projects.
