The Digitisation Technician is responsible for creating digital images and photography of material from the Huang Kam Chak Yee Collection. The Huang Kam Chak Yee Collection is a recent donation to the Oriental Museum with a particular focus on Chinese women’s lives from the 18th century onwards. Reporting to the Assistant Curator (Huang Kam Chak Yee Collection), the successful candidate will take responsibility for the photography and imaging of the collection, including the processing and transferring of such data to the University Library’s designated digital storage. Based at the Oriental Museum, the collections-based nature of the role means that there will be limited scope for hybrid working. Responsibilities include

  • Creating high quality imaging, photography, and metadata of the Huang Kam Chak Yee Collection in conformity with accepted standards and quality criteria
  • Processing images and metadata, and correctly transferring them to the University Library’s designated digital storage and other appropriate repositories
  • Ensuring the safe handling and fragile materials working in a range of environments
  • Caring for and maintaining photographic and imaging equipment
  • Managing time and resources
  • Liaising with users and stakeholders in respect of digitisation requests and externally funded project work
  • Providing technical support to colleagues and students undertaking photography and digitisation as part of project work

The postholder will be based at the Oriental Museum but will be required to work across the whole University campus in any location where collections are on display or in storage. There may also be opportunities for the postholder join curators on fieldwork in the UK or overseas.

We would be open to considering applications on both a full time and part time basis; the end date of the role would adapt to suit, e.g. full time working for a 12-month contract, 0.5 FTE working for a 24-month contract)
