The School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee is a world-class academic institution with a reputation for the excellence of its research, its high quality teaching and student experience, and the strong impact of its activities outside academia. With 900 staff from over 40 countries worldwide the School provides a dynamic, multi-national, collegiate and diverse environment with state-of-the-art laboratory, technology and teaching facilities.
We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Post-Doctoral Research Association within the Masson and Muqit Groups to conduct structural mass spectrometry for drug discovery on a Parkinson’s Disease target. This is a fixed-term appointment for 1 year.
This post-doctoral researcher will join the labs of Dr Glenn Masson and Professor Miratul Muqit at the School of Medicine, and MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitin Unit (MRC PPU), Dundee, respectively. Candidates with expertise in structural mass spectrometry, peptide chemistry, high-throughput screening and therapeutic drug development will investigate novel chemical matter for the discovery of novel therapeutics for the treatment of Parkison's Disease (PD).
The Masson and Muqit labs work together to understand critical stress sensing pathways in the mitochondria which may contribute to the progression of PD. Recent drug discovery efforts have provided novel routes for drug development which require better characterisation structurally using our cutting-edge mass spectrometry facilities at the University of Dundee.
Researchers at the School of Medicine and the MRC PPU benefit from an interdisciplinary environment with strong links to industry and the opportunity to play a part in "from bench to bedside" drug discovery programmes. They will gain training in advanced techniques, have access to cutting edge instrumentation and materials, and will work with international consortia of
