Are you interested in joining one of the top Universities in Greater Manchester for student experience?
VACANCY - Senior Credit Controller
At the University of Greater Manchester, we are proud of our growing reputation as a student-focused University. Guided by our strategy of “Teaching Intensive, Research-Informed, Assessment Enabled”, we are committed to delivering an outstanding experience for our students while maintaining strong financial governance and accountability.
Due to our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Credit Controller to join our busy and varied Finance Department. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the effective and timely collection of income, primarily tuition fees and commercial debt, while supporting the University’s compliance with financial crime, sanctions, and regulatory requirements.
As a key member of the Finance team, you will work closely with colleagues across Finance, Student Services, International, and academic and professional service teams to manage debt recovery, resolve complex queries, and ensure robust controls are embedded throughout income and credit control processes. The role involves managing aged debt, setting up and monitoring repayment plans, escalating overdue accounts in line with policy, and contributing to the continuous improvement of credit control procedures.
You will be expected to maintain accurate and auditable records, produce insightful reports on debt, risk, and trends, and support the University’s wider compliance obligations, including anti-money laundering, sanctions, and fraud prevention. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the development of digital tools and process improvements to enhance efficiency, control, and reporting.
We are looking for someone who can work effectively as part of a team, while also being self-motivated and confident in managing their own workload. Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and confidence in using finance systems and spreadsheets are essential. Just as importantly, you will take pride in delivering a professional, fair, and supportive service to students, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
We ask a lot from our staff, but in return you will receive a competitive benefits package, including access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, an employee benefits scheme, and a generous annual leave entitlement.
As a small University, you will have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues across the campus, making a tangible contribution to financial sustainability and the overall student experience.
Successful applicants will be required to prove their right to work in the UK prior to the commencement of their employment.
Whilst the University of Greater Manchester is a licensed sponsor, under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) not all roles are eligible for visa sponsorship.
This position may not meet the criteria for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).
Eligibility will be assessed in line with the Home Office requirements at the time of making the offer.
