Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract

We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.

The Role
The National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise (NICRE) is looking to appoint a Project Manager to support the work of the North East Coast and Rural Taskforce, for which NICRE provides the secretariat.

The North East Environment, Coast and Rural taskforce is a cross-sector stakeholder group, convened by the North East Combined Authority which brings together stakeholders from across different parts of the region and sectors along with representatives of national government.

The taskforce will work in a joint, place-based and inclusive way to drive forward policy to help address the unique challenges facing coastal and rural communities in the North East, and will operate until September 2027. This is an innovative partnership approach to coastal and rural policy development. Learning, recommendations and new models developed will be shared across the region and nationally as Coastal and Rural Transformation blueprints.

This role is an exciting opportunity to help drive forward a programme of work with regional and national significance for coastal and rural communities.

As project manager you will:

  • Project manage delivery of a two-year workplan for the taskforce, working across multiple diverse stakeholders and organisations.
  • Develop and deliver a programme of meetings and engagement events, with responsibility for end-to-end logistics.
  • Work with NICRE colleagues and taskforce members to ensure that learning is captured across all strands of the taskforce’s activity and disseminated at local, regional and national level.

Subject to the successful candidates’ skills, interests and capacity, this role could also offer opportunities to get more involved in policy development and/or being a facilitator for community engagement events.

This is a full-time, fixed-term role running to September 2027, when the taskforce will complete its term. We are committed to building and maintaining a fair and inclusive working environment and we would be happy to discuss arrangements for flexible and/or blended working.

NICRE exists to put knowledge to work for an enterprising countryside. We combine research with practical innovation to find new ways of unlocking potential and supporting thriving rural businesses and communities. We work with a wide range of local, regional and national partners: facilitating knowledge exchange and informing policy development to foster the innovation and resilience of rural areas.

NICRE is led out of Newcastle University, and builds on leading centres of expertise, including founding partners Newcastle University’s Centre for Rural Economy and Business School, the Enterprise Research Centre at Warwick and the Countryside and Community Research Institute at Gloucestershire and Royal Agricultural Universities. NICRE was established in 2020 thanks to a core grant from Research England, and now delivers a portfolio of insight, innovation and knowledge exchange activities involving a diverse mix of funders and partners.
