Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering

De Montfort University Dubai – Faculty of Technology, Art and Culture

De Montfort University Dubai is seeking academically qualified and experienced individuals to join the Faculty of Technology, Art and Culture as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong academic background and a passion for delivering high-quality teaching, contributing to curriculum development, and supporting student success in an international learning environment.

You will play a key role in delivering Mechanical Engineering programmes at undergraduate (and potentially postgraduate) level, with a focus on applied engineering, innovation, and sustainability. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and academic service aligned with UK higher education standards.

Key Responsibilities – For Both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer

Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, laboratories, and workshops across Mechanical Engineering programmes.
  • Teach core modules including:
  • Engineering Vibrations
  • Engineering Dynamics and Control
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing)
  • Sustainable Manufacturing and Engineering Materials
  • Design and update module content aligned with industry developments, accreditation standards, and sustainability goals.
  • Apply innovative, inclusive, and student-centred teaching approaches, including blended learning methods.

Assessment & Academic Support

  • Prepare, administer, and mark assessments in line with university regulations.
  • Provide academic guidance, feedback, and pastoral support to students.
  • Supervise undergraduate projects and contribute to postgraduate supervision where appropriate.

Scholarship, Research & Professional Practice

  • Engage in scholarly activity and applied research aligned with Mechanical Engineering and sustainability themes.
  • Contribute to publications, conferences, and knowledge exchange activities.
  • Support research-informed teaching and interdisciplinary initiatives.

Academic Service

  • Contribute to programme development, quality assurance, and accreditation activities (e.g., IMechE).
  • Participate in academic committees, open days, outreach events, and curriculum review.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the School of Engineering.

Additional Responsibilities – Senior Lecturer

  • Lead the development of modules and contribute to strategic programme planning.
  • Coordinate modules and mentor junior academic staff.
  • Build a research or consultancy profile with potential for publication or income generation.
  • Take a leadership role in academic administration and faculty development.

Candidate Requirements

Lecturer – Essential Criteria

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Ideally 2–4 years of teaching experience in higher education (UK-aligned curriculum preferred).
  • Subject expertise in areas such as:
  • Mechanical Vibrations and Dynamics
  • Control Systems
  • Finite Element Analysis
  • Additive Manufacturing
  • Sustainable Manufacturing and Materials
  • Experience delivering engaging and inclusive teaching.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Commitment to student support, academic integrity, and quality assurance.

Desirable

  • Experience contributing to curriculum development or scholarly activity.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as MATLAB, Simulink, ANSYS, or Abaqus.

Senior Lecturer – Essential Criteria

  • Completed PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Ideally 5–6 years of higher education teaching experience and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Strong expertise across Mechanical Engineering subject areas.
  • Evidence of curriculum leadership and module development.
  • Demonstrated research output or strong potential for publication.
  • Experience contributing to consultancy, external funding, or professional engagement.
  • Proven ability to mentor colleagues and lead academic initiatives.

Desirable

  • Experience with accreditation processes (e.g., IMechE).
  • Experience teaching professional or executive-level learners.
