The opportunity
University of the Arts London (UAL) is seeking a self-organised and customer-focused individual to join our team, ensuring the smooth running of our high-quality on-site equipment loan service.
As a Kit Room Technician, you will be responsible for managing loanable resources and delivering excellent service to students and staff, while supporting the planning, preparation and distribution of equipment and related consumables. You will administer the online system, maintain accurate inventory records, organise daily intakes and outgoings and liaise with the Technical Coordinator to ensure timely maintenance and servicing of all resources.
You will also provide technical assistance to users to support academic activities, student projects and events, as well as contribute to the planning of new equipment acquisitions and expenditure requests. The role involves frequent manual handling and movement of equipment within the Loan Facility, including some heavy lifting of lighting kits and photo/video equipment.
About you
The ideal candidate will hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent industry qualifications, experience or certifications that demonstrate the technical knowledge required for the role. You will have experience of working in a busy, customer-facing role, responding professionally to challenges and delivering positive outcomes.
Strong technical skills are essential, including the ability to troubleshoot a range of equipment issues, perform basic maintenance, ensure safe storage and maintain accurate records. You will be confident using bespoke database software, possess excellent communication skills, and be able to explain technical concepts clearly to a non-technical audience.
