Cambridge BHF Centre of Research Excellence
The University of Cambridge has identified cardiovascular disease as a major research priority, and this has been endorsed by the award of a British Heart Foundation Research Excellence Award of £5 million (2024-2029).
The Cambridge BHF Centre of Research Excellence (BHF CRE) brings together a wide range of cardiovascular research groups across the University of Cambridge and affiliated institutions. More information about the Centre's aims and main research themes can be found on our website: https://www.cardiovascular.cam.ac.uk/research/cambridgecre.
We are now inviting applications for a Clinical Career Development Fellowship or a non-clinical Career Development Fellowship. This fellowship is available for an outstanding postdoctoral clinician or postdoctoral researcher in basic biomedical science or disciplines outside traditional biological science, working at the interfaces of disciplines, particularly where adoption of techniques outside cardiovascular science can accelerate basic and translational research.
Only one fellowship is available.
The award will include full salary and £16.5K per annum towards other costs. The fellow will be supported to apply for additional funding and become competitive for external Intermediate Research Fellowships by the end of their fellowship.
Successful applicants will have a strong record of research and its communication in a relevant subject. The post holder will also need to be able to work independently as well as in active collaboration with multi-disciplinary partners.
Please see Further Particular for the Clinical Career Development Fellowship and the non-clinical Career Development Fellowship, these outline the specific requirements for each fellowship. Please ensure that you state in your application which fellowship you are applying for.
For a Clinical Career Development Fellowship, the successful candidate will require an Honorary Clinical Contract with the relevant Trust.
Funds for the fellowship will be available for up to two years from the commencement of the post.
The fellow will be supervised by someone from our list of eligible supervisors. You are strongly encouraged to make contact with the person you propose to work with before applying.
Informal enquiries about these posts can be directed to the Centre Manager, Dr Jane Sugars (jms80@cam.ac.uk).
Interviews will be held during the week beginning 23 March 2026.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
