Working in the Oxford Brain Bank (OBB) based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, you will be responsible for the governance of the tissue bank as well as for overseeing the processes of sample and data collection, storage and distribution for research. You will operate in a complex and highly regulated research environment, ensuring that the OBB adheres to regulatory and ethical requirements. You will work closely with the Director of the OBB, Prof Laura Parkkinen, other members of the biobank team, NHS colleagues locally and nationally, colleagues in the University’s Research Services and the Designated Individual for HTA licence 12217, to ensure the highest standards off regulatory compliance, and to strive to provide the highest standards of service to the research community served by the OBB.
 
You will oversee all biobanking activities, ensuring that they proceed in accordance with the OBB’s ethically approved Protocol, and that they are appropriately documented in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will be responsible for the biobank’s compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) standards, Data Protection legislation, University and departmental policies and procedures as well as the governance framework in place for HTA licence 12217. This includes detailed reporting to the Research Governance, Ethics and Assurance team in Research Services, and to the OBB’s own governance committees.
 
You will help to coordinate applications to a relevant Research Ethics Committee and any necessary amendments, working closely with the University’s sponsorship team and colleagues in the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Research and Development team.
 
You will maintain the OBB’s Quality Management system, undertake risk assessments and audits to guide the biobank’s governance, draft and maintain up-to-date documentation, and ensure the provision of appropriate training. You will have overall responsibility for the OBB’s management of records, from consent records to training records to sample manifests and delivery slips. You will be responsible for ensuring that all OBB staff receive appropriate training and maintain competency for the activities they undertake.
 
You will oversee the sample distribution process, ensuring applications from researchers to access the OBB’s samples and/or data are appropriately reviewed, and approved applications are fulfilled in a timely manner, keeping impeccable sample traceability records throughout and ensuring appropriate research contracts are put in place if samples or data are transferred outside the University of Oxford.
 
You will line manage members of the OBB’s technical and administrative staff.

This post is full time although part-time (minimum 0.8 FTE) will be considered and is fixed term for 4 years in the first instance.
