Permanent Contract (1.0FTE)
The University of Chester is delighted to share an exciting opportunity within the Chester Medical School (CMS), which delivers a range of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Clinical and Biomedical Sciences. We are seeking an experienced and inspirational academic to join us as an Academic Lead for Year 1 of the MBChB Graduate Entry Medicine programme, which is a key leadership role within our growing medical school, offering the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the education of future doctors.
As Academic Lead, you will provide academic and operational leadership for Year 1 of the MBChB programme. You will lead curriculum delivery, assessment and quality assurance, ensuring a high-quality, inclusive and supportive learning environment for students. Working closely with clinical partners and Warwick Medical School, you will ensure curriculum coherence, academic standards and continuous improvement.
You will oversee assessment design, standard setting and exam board processes, monitoring student progress and wellbeing, and provide senior pastoral support. You will also line manage and support teaching staff, contribute to staff development, and play an active role in programme leadership and governance.
You will be qualified with a PhD or equivalent, a PGCert in Higher Education or Fellowship of Advance HE (or willingness to obtain), and possess experience of programme or module leadership in clinical or health professions education. A strong understanding of assessment, quality assurance, student support, and a commitment to teaching excellence, scholarship and collaboration will be required.
Chester Medical School offers purpose-built clinical skills, simulation and anatomy facilities, strong partnerships across hospital, community and primary care settings, and a supportive, forward-thinking academic culture. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new medical school and contribute to the future of medical education.
We encourage applications from a diverse range of applicants and are willing to consider a job share.
