Chester Medical School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Translational Medicine with expertise in Respiratory Medicine to join the Medical Sciences division. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an expanding and ambitious Medical School and to play a key role in the delivery and development of teaching and research in Translational Medicine.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and will lead the Respiratory Medicine pathway within the MSc Translational Medicine programme. You will join a collaborative academic team committed to delivering high quality education, developing impactful research, and supporting students to achieve their full potential.

The school delivers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes designed to prepare graduates for careers in medicine, biomedical sciences, and healthcare.

Programmes include BSc Biomedical Science, BSc Pharmacology, and postgraduate programmes such as MSc Biomedical Science, MSc Haematology, and MSc Translational Medicine with specialist pathways in respiratory medicine, orthopaedics, oncology, and diabetes. The school also delivers an MRes in Medical Science and a Graduate Entry MBChB programme.

The role

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and academic development within the Medical Sciences division.

Key responsibilities include

  • Deliver high quality teaching through lectures, tutorials, and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Lead and develop the Respiratory Medicine pathway within the MSc Translational Medicine programme
  • Develop innovative teaching materials and contribute to curriculum development
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and dissertations
  • Contribute to research activities aligned with the division’s research strategy
  • Develop collaborative research with clinical and NHS partners
  • Contribute to CPD provision for healthcare professionals
  • Support student learning through academic guidance and pastoral support
  • Act as a Personal Academic Tutor and contribute to module leadership where required

About you

You will be an enthusiastic and committed academic with expertise in Respiratory Medicine and a passion for teaching and research.

You will have

  • A good first degree in a relevant discipline
  • A Masters level qualification in a relevant field
  • A PhD or willingness to achieve this within an agreed timescale
  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or willingness to obtain
  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Expertise in Respiratory Medicine
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and team working skills
