Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 6th February 2026

We are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our welcoming and collaborative Finance & Legal Services Directorate. Based at our Headington Campus, with the option for agile working, you will report to the Head of Management Accounts and play a valuable role in supporting the financial health of our Faculties and Directorates.

In this role, you will help prepare financial reports, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis, ensuring colleagues have clear, timely and reliable information to support decision‑making. You’ll work closely with Budget Holders and senior leaders across the University, becoming a trusted source of insight and guidance.

You will also help colleagues understand and use our financial systems, promote good practice, and support the effective application of University Financial Regulations. Your work will contribute directly to strong financial planning, informed choices and the smooth running of key financial processes across the academic year.

You will join a friendly, professional and supportive team within the Finance & Legal Services Directorate — a central service that plays a vital role in enabling the University to deliver its strategic aims.

The Management Accounts Team partners closely with budget holders, senior leaders and departments across the University. Together, we provide meaningful analysis, financial insight and operational support to help ensure resources are used effectively and sustainably.

We pride ourselves on being collaborative, solution‑focused and committed to continual improvement. You’ll find a culture that values learning, encourages new ideas and supports your growth as part of a diverse and motivated community.

What will I be doing?

  • Assisting in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis for Faculties and Directorates.
  • Ensuring financial information is accurate, reliable and delivered on time.
  • Supporting colleagues in their use of financial systems and helping them understand financial processes.
  • Interpreting financial data and presenting information in a clear, accessible and supportive way.
  • Monitoring financial performance and identifying trends, issues or opportunities.
  • Contributing to key financial processes throughout the year, including month‑end and year‑end activities.
  • Helping to develop training, guidance and support materials for colleagues involved in financial procedures.

What skills do I need?

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a finance or management accounting environment.
  • Confidence explaining financial information to colleagues who may not have a finance background.
  • Skilled in using financial systems and Microsoft Excel to interpret and present data.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.

As an Oxford Brookes employee, you will enjoy a minimum of 25 days’ annual leave, rising with service, plus 8 Bank Holidays and around 5 additional University closure days each year.

We support hybrid working (where the role allows) and provide the equipment needed to work flexibly and comfortably.

We offer an extremely competitive Local Government Pension Scheme with a 19.2% employer contribution, alongside financial wellbeing resources and an employee assistance helpline.

As a Disability Confident Employer, we guarantee to interview any disabled applicant who meets the essential selection criteria.
