Location: Flexible, Hybrid

Hours of work: Full time (37.5 hours per week over 5 days). Annual leave allowance of 27 days plus public holidays.

Job Purpose

The Public Sector Funding Administrator will be responsible for submitting claims for our projects funded by Innovate, National Lottery Heritage Fund, FIPL, EU Horizon, DEFRA etc.

Other tasks will include financially managing public sector funded projects through, arranging audits, recording/reporting expenditure vs project budgets and supporting funding applications with budgeting for research, conservation and wildlife projects.

We welcome applications from candidates with experience of working with project staff, and familiarity with UK public sector funding bodies and application processes.

The successful applicant will work with key partners and stakeholders which include:

  • Universities and Research Institutes.
  • European partners through collaborative research programmes such as Horizon.
  • NGO’s such as BTO, LEAF, FWAG, Wildlife Trusts, Woodland Trust.
  • Government departments and arms-length-bodies e.g. NE, EA, FE and JNCC.
  • Farmer Clusters and Environmental Farmer Groups.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  1. Collate, manage and submit claims for funded projects via funders submission methods and ensure high standards of record keeping.
  2. Deliver financial, administrative, and project audit requirements for public sector funded projects to include working with external auditors.
  3. Provide accounts team, heads of projects and project managers with up to date claims/project spend information.
  4. Work closely with the Human Resources team and Accounts team to gather all relevant financial information in a timely manor for claims and application budgets.
  5. Liaise with UK and international partner organisations to deliver projects and provide support for submitting claims and working with GWCT to deliver the financial management of projects.
  6. Maintain skills/knowledge and work closely with line manager to keep the Bid Tracker up to date.
  7. Engage in funding application processes, create project budgets and learn the individual funding rules for each application and provide advice to GWCT staff.
  8. Attend project meetings, take minutes and prepare papers for meetings to include travel within the UK and overseas

Person Specification

  1. Experience of Public Sector funding, including financial delivery to project milestones and working with a variety of people from multiple organisations: Essential
  2. Excellent skills at using spreadsheets and keeping accurate well-structured records and excellent organisational skills including managing a busy workload, planning effectively and prioritising: Essential
  3. Ability to work well with minimum supervision, flexibility and a positive attitude: Essential
  4. Excellent IT and Budgetary skills and works to a high level of accuracy, paying attention to detail: Essential
  5. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and with appropriate tone, verbally and in writing: Essential
  6. Knowledge of Public Sector grant application portals and contacts with key sector funding bodies: Desirable
  7. An understanding of environmental and wildlife conservation issues and policies: Desirable
