The School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham is a vibrant and thriving academic community, which moved to a new state-of-the-art research building in 2023. We provide an inclusive environment where we strive to support every member of staff in realising their career potential.

The School of Chemistry’s Analytical Facility provides comprehensive, high quality facilities and expertise for the examination and analysis of materials produced by the various synthetic chemistry research groups within the School, the University and external clients. The post holder will provide technical support to the facilities including, but not limited to, chromatography and mass spectrometry, with a focus on the instrumentation for separation of chemical mixtures, as well as general support to the research laboratories. Your role will include the operation and maintenance of instruments, providing guidance and training to users, (particularly regarding separation techniques and approaches), running samples, ensuring that the laboratory functions in a safe, efficient and effective manner, cryogen fills and any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Mass Spectrometry Facility Manager and Technical Manager.
