Liverpool Hope University is seeking to appoint a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) to play a pivotal role in the academic, civic and international leadership of the University.

Hope is a liberal arts inspired University with research and teaching across Arts and Humanities, Science, Business, Social Science and Education. Whilst Liverpool Hope is one of the newest universities in the country, its history goes back to our founding colleges in the 19th century (1844 and 1856). It is these foundation colleges, together with the later Christ’s College, that were brought together to form Liverpool Hope University. We are a superb University rooted in a vibrant and exciting city.

Hope strives to provide a deep and well-rounded education of the whole person. We are a strong community with four beautiful campuses. The University has striven for and, we believe, achieved a balance between research and teaching. In the REF 2021 we submitted 96% of eligible academic staff with more than 61% of our research rated as world leading or internationally excellent. Following NSS2025 we were recognised as 4th in the UK for student satisfaction by the THES. At Hope a drive for academic excellence and a genuine concern to widen participation complement each other. Ours, we say with justification, is ‘a University with a collegiate heart’.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor is a key member of the University’s senior leadership team working closely with and deputising for the Vice-Chancellor & Rector. The role carries strategic and operational responsibility for major aspects of the academic and institutional life of the University, across learning and teaching, academic leadership, innovation and partnerships.

The postholder plays a central role in shaping academic priorities, ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering coherence and excellence across the University’s academic community. The DVC will work in close partnership with Academic and Professional Services Colleagues, particularly those with expertise in academic quality, student support, learning resources and institutional data. They will ensure that both the development of the academic vision of the university and the day to day activities of the academic teams come together effectively to support staff and students to achieve academic success and meaningful scholarly endeavour.

For full details of the role, please see the attached recruitment pack. Applications should consist of a full curriculum vitae, detailing qualifications and experience, full employment history and relevant achievements. CVs should be accompanied by a covering letter describing in no more than 3 pages how candidates meet the criteria outlined in the person specification, why the appointment is of interest and what they believe they can bring to the role.

Applications should be sent to jobs@hope.ac.uk by Thursday 12th March by 5pm quoting the reference number: MREC004A

You are welcome to arrange a confidential discussion about the role by emailing Andy Catterall, Director of Governance & People Services: cattera2@hope.ac.uk

Interviews for this position are likely to be held W/C 20th April 2026
