We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
About the role
We are seeking to appoint a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst to join our BI, Analytics & Insights Team, within Strategic Planning & Change at Newcastle University. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of university-wide business intelligence, and to help shape how data and insight are used to inform strategic decision-making across the institution.
You will work with a rich and complex range of higher education data — including student, research, staff, financial and external benchmarking information — and collaborate with colleagues across the University to understand business needs and deliver high-quality analytical products. This will include the design and delivery of dashboards, reports and modelling tools to support strategic planning, performance monitoring and change initiatives.
Acting as a specialist in business intelligence and analytics, you will provide trusted insight to senior leaders, helping them interpret complex data and use it to drive evidence-based decisions. You will also play an important role in contributing to data quality improvements and the development of data governance best practice across the institution.
This is a full-time, permanent position.
About you
You will have proven professional experience in a relevant analytical, business intelligence or data-focused role, ideally within a large and complex organisation. You will bring strong skills in data visualisation, analysis and statistics alongside a keen interest in data governance and experience of working to improve data quality.
Crucially, you will be confident working with complex datasets and communicating insight clearly to senior audiences, helping translate analysis into actionable recommendations. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who are curious, collaborative and passionate about using data to support better decision-making.
To apply
To apply please upload your CV and a cover letter evidencing how your skills and experience align to the essential person criteria as outlined within job description (available on the university's website, accessed by the 'Apply' button).
There will be a two-stage interview process for shortlisted candidates. The first stage, on 19th March, will consist of an online presentation based on a task provided in advance, drawing on your previous data-related experience. Should you be successful at this stage, the second stage will be an in-person formal interview held on 27th March at the Newcastle University main campus.
