The Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and hardworking Chief Building Services Technician to join our busy maintenance team. Reporting to the Deputy Facilities Manager, the duties of the post will include a wide range of planned, preventative and reactive maintenance tasks, as well as minor installations and modifications of building services, structure and equipment.

You will work in all areas of the Department including plant rooms, laboratories, controlled environments and support areas. You will be expected to organise yourself and other available resources in a way that minimises disruption to research and teaching activities.

The role holder will allocate work to two Maintenance Technicians and an apprentice, ensuring the maintenance team works efficiently to successfully plan and implement a wide variety of infrastructure and maintenance tasks. You will have a flexible approach to work and there is a requirement to provide support outside of normal working hours in an emergency.

This is a varied role which requires mechanical engineering skills as well as excellent communication, people management, problem-solving and team working skills. Experience in cost estimating and scheme design, as well as, general building maintenance and repairs is essential and some electrical engineering knowledge is desirable. The role holder should have previous experience in a maintenance environment and a relevant qualification would be advantageous.
