Our Student Wellbeing & Success service provides holistic, person‑centred support to students experiencing psychological, social or financial challenges, alongside proactive interventions to enhance engagement and success. We work collaboratively with academic and professional colleagues to ensure students have the best possible opportunity to thrive.

Aligned to the mental health strand of the service, our specialist advisors provide triage, assessment, short‑term psychological interventions and support with accessing external services. The team also leads on safeguarding, risk and critical incident responses, offering consultation and guidance to colleagues across the institution.

The primary focus of this role is the delivery of non‑urgent, high‑quality one‑to‑one psychological interventions and case coordination for students experiencing distress or reduced wellbeing. The role also includes delivering proactive group sessions and workshops.

We are seeking compassionate individuals with significant experience of providing psychological or wellbeing interventions to adults or young adults. The post holder will manage a caseload and offer single‑session or short‑term interventions addressing issues such as anxiety, low mood, exam stress, sleep difficulties, workload management and procrastination. You will work effectively with a diverse student community, including neuro‑diverse students and those from underrepresented groups.

A strong understanding of the factors that influence psychological distress and wellbeing is essential, as is the ability to deliver evidence‑based psychoeducation and interventions tailored to varying needs. Experience within higher education is advantageous. The post holder must be able to assess needs, plan and deliver sessions with clear goals, and evaluate outcomes in a way that reflects the holistic needs of each student.

Candidates should hold a relevant professional qualification or demonstrate substantial training and experience in fields such as mental health, coaching, social prescribing or psychological interventions. Excellent communication skills, motivation, adaptability, and a collaborative and compassionate approach are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide needs‑led, one‑to‑one psychological and wellbeing interventions that empower students to manage a range of difficulties.
  • Work with students following triage and assessment by Mental Health Practitioners and under the direction of senior colleagues.
  • Deliver interventions face‑to‑face, by telephone and online, adapting to student need.
  • Work inclusively and compassionately, aligned with the values of the service and institution.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate evidence‑based interventions with clear goals and outcomes.
  • Identify, assess and appropriately escalate risk.
  • Maintain accurate, defensible and professional documentation.
  • Provide referrals and signposting to internal and external services.
  • Collaborate with academic and professional staff to ensure an integrated approach to student support.
  • Participate in team activities, meetings, service development and training.
  • Ensure quality of service delivery and adhere to all university policies and codes of practice.
  • Contribute to the wider student experience.
  • Support University events such as Open Days, Clearing, registration and graduation ceremonies.
