The Post

An opportunity has arisen within the Institute for Social Marketing and Health (ISMH) for a Research Fellow to work primarily on a study to support implementation of Healthy Dads Healthy Kids in Scottish prisons. The successful candidate will significantly contribute to data collection, data analysis, write-up and dissemination of results. They will collaborate with the Scottish Prison Service to complete the study.

Description of Duties

We are seeking a full-time Research Fellow (RF) to work on a study to support implementation of the ‘Healthy Dads Healthy Kids’ programme in Scottish prisons.

Additional opportunities may arise for the successful RF to work across other Justice Health topics and to contribute to the wider portfolio of research in ISMH and the wider School.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Primary data collection (for example, observations of HDHK-P delivery, interviews with prison staff)
  • PPI with staff, people in prison and families
  • Data analysis, write-up and presentation of results
  • Working with key stakeholders, including the Scottish Prison Service and policymakers

The post holder is required to ensure the safety and security of data under their control in accordance with legal requirements and University policies. As part of multi-institution study teams, they will communicate and liaise with key collaborators and build relations with key stakeholders.

The post-holder will have a good understanding of issues relating to Health and Justice and parental imprisonment, and previous experience of conducting research involving people with criminal justice experience and/or affected families, or other similar marginalised groups.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant subject or equivalent experience

Knowledge and experience

  • Good knowledge of Justice Health topics, parental imprisonment and the wider impacts of justice involvement on families
  • Experience of conducting research involving people with criminal justice experience and/or affected families, or other similar marginalised groups

Skills and attributes

  • Ability to conduct qualitative research to a high standard, including data collection, developing an analytical approach, coding, synthesis and interpretation
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment
