The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is one of the world's leading centres for teaching and research in conservation and heritage science.

The Research Laboratory Technician provides specialist technical support to a research laboratory focused on the scientific investigation of easel paintings. The role contributes directly to the delivery of analytical research and fee-for-service work through hands-on laboratory analysis, sample preparation, and data processing, working closely with academic and research staff.

In addition, the post holder supports the effective day-to-day operation of the laboratory by assisting with the maintenance, servicing, and troubleshooting of specialist analytical equipment, helping to ensure continuity of laboratory activities, compliance with procedures, and efficient use of resources.

We are seeking someone who has practical experience working in a laboratory or technical environment involving specialist equipment and established operating procedures. They require a high degree of precision and accuracy with both excellent communication and organisational skills. They will also demonstrate advanced knowledge of lab technician work involving a critical understanding of relevant theory and/or principles.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
