Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the world-class Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at the University of Surrey on a fixed-term contract as a Teaching Laboratory Technician.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the first-year undergraduate Electrical and Electronic Engineering laboratory, along with other associated teaching and practical spaces.

In this role, you will play a key part in delivering high-quality technical support and excellent customer service to both students and academic staff. You will help maintain a safe, well-organised, and welcoming laboratory environment by adhering to Health and Safety policies and procedures, as well as ensuring the general tidiness and cleanliness of all laboratory areas.

The role involves setting up, supporting, and maintaining laboratory experiments, as well as engaging with and supporting a diverse student cohort in their practical learning.

Additional responsibilities include operating and supporting users of the laser cutter and 3D printer. The role also involves some manual handling, e.g. movement of power supplies and other electrical equipment around the labs.

About you

You will be an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, excellent IT proficiency - particularly in Office 365 - and a proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

An ONC, HND, or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline such as Electronic Engineering, Physics, or Computing would be advantageous.

A good working knowledge of electronics is essential for this role.

What we can offer

In addition to a competitive salary you will receive 25 days annual leave, with additional days for Bank Holidays and University closure days. We offer a generous pension, flexible working options, access to world-class leisure facilities, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.
