Lagator lab works at the intersection of evolutionary, molecular, micro and synthetic biology, to address questions about bacterial transcriptional regulation and antimicrobial resistance. We design synthetic genetic systems in bacteria to ask fundamental and applied questions about diverse topics: evolution of multidrug resistance; regulation of multi-drug efflux pumps; evolution of bacterial promoters and transcription factors; transcriptional crosstalk between plasmids and bacterial hosts. We use Escherichia coli as a model system.
Applicants should ideally have experience in molecular biology (in particular molecular cloning on bacterial plasmids and chromosomes; Next-generation sequencing), microbiology (sterile techniques; bacterial growth and fluorescence assays in plate reader and flow cytometer) and/or experimental evolution.
Applicants should hold a qualification at QCF level 6 (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant biological science subject OR QCF level 2 passes (such as GCSE’s) in English and Mathematics and at least one Science subject and substantial relevant experience of working in a research laboratory. Applicants holding a higher education degree (MA or PhD) are highly encouraged to apply.
