Opportunity Overview
We are seeking a proactive, highly organised Specialist Technician (Sport and Exercise Science) to join the University of Salford's School of Health and Society. Based in our state-of-the-art laboratories in the Mary Seacole Building, you will provide technical support across human performance, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, and body composition facilities. This hands-on role includes laboratory management, equipment calibration and maintenance, online gas analysis, 3D motion capture, V̇O₂ max testing, data collection, research support, health and safety compliance, risk assessment, and COSHH documentation. We are looking for a detail-focused, customer-oriented laboratory technician committed to high-quality teaching, research excellence, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing a diverse range of technical specialist services for; teaching, group study, demonstration, testing, fault diagnosis, consultancy, collaborations and research.
- Providing support for the range of programmes delivered within the school’s sport and exercise science laboratory spaces, including preparing teaching materials for practice and demonstrations.
- Demonstrating the correct methods and techniques for a range of specialist equipment, such as online gas analysis systems and 3D motion capture systems to staff and students, either on a one-to-one or group basis, including assisting in the organisation and implementation of related assessments.
About the School or About the Department
The Sport and Exercise Science laboratories within the Mary Seacole Building comprises the Human Performance Laboratory, Exercise Physiology Laboratory, Strength and Conditioning Suite and the Body Composition Laboratory. In addition, we also have a number of specialist teaching clinics and training areas that often use portable equipment to undertake field-based testing. These state-of-the-art facilities provide a wide range of specialist equipment and software utilised by students and staff from across the school and the wider University.
