The Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages is seeking to appoint an Academic Assistant (Undergraduate) to provide administrative support for the faculty’s academic administration activities. Working as part of a high-performing Professional Services team, you will assist with undergraduate examining and admissions activities, although there will be flexibility to assist in other areas as needed.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in academic administration within the University of Oxford. You will join an experienced and supportive team based in the Faculty Hub in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, a collaborative new space bringing seven humanities faculties and research institutes together with world-class libraries, collections, exhibitions, cinema, music, theatre, and performance.
The role provides the chance to build experience across a wide range of administrative processes and to contribute to the effective running of a busy and dynamic academic environment.
This is a permanent role, and on a 0.5 FTE part-time basis
About you
You will have experience of working in a busy office environment, ideally in a customer-facing role, and will bring a methodical approach to managing records, correspondence, and deadlines. You will be confident using standard IT applications and comfortable learning new systems and procedures.
You will have excellent attention to detail, good organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing demands with accuracy and efficiency. You will work well both independently and as part of a team, showing initiative in resolving straightforward issues and good judgement in knowing when to seek guidance. Strong communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion are essential.
Application Process
You will be required to upload a supporting statement, CV, and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
The closing date for applications is Friday, 13 March 2026, at 12:00pm, and interviews will be held 24 March.
