Based at the University of Glasgow’s Dumfries Campus, the School of Social & Environmental Sustainability is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Natural Hazards to further enhance research and teaching across a developing portfolio of Environmental Science & Sustainability undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The successful candidate will be part of a collegiate and committed team of environmental science & sustainability colleagues working across a number of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

With a specific interest in Natural Hazards, their characterisation, and the risks they pose to society and ecosystems, our ambitious and inspiring new colleague will play a key role in the development and delivery of courses across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The ideal candidate will also have a broad knowledge across the environmental sciences and work in an interdisciplinary team. Successful applicants will also contribute to the School’s successes in securing ambitious research projects.

In addition to a comprehensive understanding of Natural Hazards, the ideal candidate will be confident in leading/teaching groups in the field and laboratory and collaborate with external agencies. Skills in GIS applications would be particularly welcomed.

It is expected that applicants should be willing to teach across the University’s campuses, potentially in China on our joint programmes with leading Chinese universities, and more generally overseas if and when required.

The postholder will deliver exciting and engaging learning and teaching activities, undertake research of international excellence and contribute to knowledge exchange activities relative to the discipline, and contribute to administration and service activities in line with the School/College’s strategic objectives.

The appointment is full-time (35 hours per week) and open-ended.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Steven Gillespie, steven.gillespie@glasgow.ac.uk
