We have an exciting opportunity to join the Institute as a Research Facility Scientist within the MRC WIMM Genome Engineering, Transgenics and Virus Production Facility.

The Facility is a core service with expertise in establishing genetically modified model systems. We employ a broad range of molecular biology techniques alongside CRISPR-based genome editing technologies to produce validated, ready-to-use reagents, including genetically modified mouse models and engineered cell lines, in support of cutting-edge biomedical research.

About the role

As Research Facility Scientist, you will contribute to all aspects of model generation and validation. Responsibilities will include:

  • Design and construction of molecular reagents and targeting constructs
  • Mammalian cell culture and genome editing
  • Molecular genetic validation of edited lines
  • Embryo manipulation and transgenic model production
  • Cryopreservation (embryo and sperm freezing)
  • Rederivation of mouse lines via IVF and embryo transfer
  • Management of mouse colonies

You will work closely with researchers across the Institute to deliver high-quality, reproducible model systems that underpin innovative scientific programmes.

About you

You will hold a degree in Biological Sciences (or a closely related discipline) and have relevant laboratory experience. Essential experience required includes:

  • Molecular biology techniques
  • CRISPR genome editing
  • Mammalian cell culture
  • Transgenic model generation
  • Mouse colony management
  • Cryopreservation and rederivation techniques

You will also demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organisational ability, and a clear commitment to supporting high-quality scientific research.

Contract type

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) fixed-term position for 3 years.
