The Estates Services team ensures the maintenance and care of the University’s built estate, comprising over 300 specialist buildings including research labs, lecture halls, libraries, museums, sports facilities, and accommodation. The Building Fabric Team plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, safe, and efficient maintenance, working closely with technical, administrative, and departmental teams to provide responsive, customer-focused service across the estate.

About the Role

As a Building Fabric Technician, you will be at the forefront of maintaining Oxford’s world-class estate, delivering both reactive and planned maintenance across a wide range of buildings. You will carry out repairs and maintenance across the estate, with a particular focus on carpentry tasks including door/window repairs, shelving, office alterations, and furniture installation.

You will work closely with the Building Fabric Team Leader and other DLO colleagues to prioritise tasks, coordinate support from other trades, and ensure all work meets safety, quality, and customer service standards. Using our CAFM system (Planon), you will record and track progress, ensuring transparency and efficiency across all maintenance activities.

This role offers the opportunity to develop your technical expertise and contribute to the smooth running of one of the world’s leading university estates, while working as part of a collaborative and skilled team committed to excellence in service delivery.

About You

  • NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in property maintenance, carpentry, bricklaying, or a relevant trade.
  • Extensive experience in construction-related work, particularly carpentry
  • Capable of undertaking manual work safely, including lifting and working at heights.
  • Awareness of construction site health and safety policies and a commitment to safe working practices.
  • Professional, customer-focused approach, able to liaise effectively with colleagues, contractors, and building users.
  • Full UK driving licence
