FACULTY OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a PhD from a recognised university, which should be in Geography, Human Geography, Critical Geography, Interdisciplinary Studies, or a closely related field.
Candidates should also possess:
- Teaching experience at a recognized tertiary institution/university
- Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Good track record of developing thematic research programmes and history of attracting external research funding and grants
- Experience in teaching courses in some areas related to Postcolonial Geography, Geographies of Development and Geography of Social Justice, Human Geography or other related environmental disciplines
- Proficiency in at least three (3) of the following:
- Research Design
- Design of Ethnographic Studies
- Research Methodology for Qualitative Geography
- Qualitative Research Data Management Software
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
- Master’s degree in Geography, Human Geography, Critical Geography, Interdisciplinary Studies or any closely related field
- Experience in providing ethnographic guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as Faculty, in the areas of Experimental Design, Survey Design Data Analysis for Human Geography, and/or other related environmental science disciplines
- Experience in successful supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Experience in in-depth review of research proposals, manuscripts and scientific papers prepared for publication
- Demonstrated experience in forging working relationships and display meaningful engagement with internal and external stakeholders (industry relationships)
- Knowledge and experience in the use of Classical and Geostatistical Software, including R, SQL
- Competency in teaching and development of training materials for online and blended learning by students within the Human Geography programme
- Evidence of advanced level training in the use of software for qualitative data analysis such as R, Dedoose, MaxQDa or other industry standard packages
The following would be considered assets:
- Certificate in university teaching and learning
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum design and development
- Demonstrated experience in research and teaching in the Caribbean Region and/or Global South
- Proficiency in communicating with research students on qualitative methods and interpretation of experimental results
