About the role

Role Overview

We are looking for a Service Desk Support Analyst (Student Placement) to join our IT Services team for a one-year placement. This role is a key point of contact between IT Services and the BU community.

You will provide first-line technical support and aim to resolve issues at the first point of contact wherever possible. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced Service Desk environment while building your technical and customer service skills.

This role is ideal for a BU student who enjoys problem-solving, helping others, and working with technology.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide first-line IT support by phone, in person, and online
  • Diagnose and resolve incidents and service requests using approved tools and systems
  • Take ownership of issues and escalate them when needed, while staying responsible through to resolution
  • Keep users updated on progress, planned changes, and service outages
  • Log and update incidents accurately to support reporting and service improvement
  • Work closely with colleagues across IT Services to deliver a consistent, professional service
  • Support continuous improvement and customer satisfaction activities

What We’re Looking For

  • A full-time BU student completing a placement year
  • Clear and confident communication skills
  • The ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure
  • A basic understanding of IT services, Windows, and Microsoft 365
  • A positive, customer-focused approach and the ability to work well in a team
