Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 4th March 2026
Closes: 31st March 2026
Job Ref: 185231

Oxford Population Health (Nuffield Department of Population Health) contains world-renowned population health research groups and provides an excellent environment for multi-disciplinary research and teaching. The department has around 1000 staff, students and academic visitors working in a number of world-renowned population health research groups to investigate the causes and prevention of disease and lead human health forward.

The Department is seeking to recruit a Grants Officer to join the Grants (Finance) Team to manage the full research funding lifecycle, from application stage through to award management and post-award administration. The role includes processing grant applications, supplements, and no-cost extensions, while ensuring robust financial oversight, compliance, and high standards of governance throughout the award period.

Once fully trained, you will manage your own portfolio of research grants, supporting academics across the full funding lifecycle. Responsibilities include costing applications using X5, setting up and monitoring project accounts, preparing financial reports, reconciling variances, advising on sponsor terms and conditions, and ensuring compliance with university and funder regulations. You will liaise closely with academics, Research Services, the central Finance Division and external funders.

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) with substantial relevant financial management experience. Excellent IT skills (including advanced Excel), experience of computerised finance systems, strong attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly are essential. Experience of research grant management and knowledge of Oracle Financials and/or X5 would be advantageous.

The post is full-time (part-time considered) and fixed-term for 2 years.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 31 March 2026.

You will be required to upload a CV and a cover letter as part of your online application. The cover letter should clearly describe how you meet each of the selection criteria listed in the job description.
