Job details

By joining the University of Lancashire, you’ll become part of a thriving community of talent that’s united by a shared vision – to transform the lives of our students and create prosperity and opportunity in the communities we serve. Every colleague has a vital role to play in helping us achieve this vision.

About the role:

The School of Medicine & Dentistry is seeking to appoint a Clinical Teacher to join our enthusiastic and expanding MBBS teaching team based at the Westlakes campus in Whitehaven, Cumbria. This is a fixed‑term post for 12 months and would be well suited to an experienced clinician who is looking to develop their skills in teaching, assessment, and curriculum development.

About you:

The postholder will primarily facilitate teaching and act as an academic adviser for students in Years 3–5 of the MBBS programme. There will also be opportunities to contribute to teaching in earlier years and to support the education of Physician Associate students.

Teaching activities will be varied but will focus mainly on small‑group delivery, including case‑based learning, medical simulation, and teaching clinical reasoning and communication skills. The postholder will also participate in student selection and assessment processes, including involvement in Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) and examining within Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).

Applicants must hold full GMC registration at the time of appointment and have experience working to standards expected by relevant professional bodies. They should also have completed postgraduate medical training to at least FY2 level (or equivalent). Candidates without a postgraduate teaching qualification will be supported to obtain one during employment. Although the role is based at the Westlakes Campus in Whitehaven, occasional travel to other university sites may be required.

Use of AI in applications:

We value genuine interest in the role, and AI can support your application. However, all examples and statements must be truthful, based on your own experience, and written in your natural communication style. Applications that rely too heavily on AI can appear generic and may lack the detail needed to assess your skills and experience.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.

What we can offer you:

We offer a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits—from generous annual leave to a comprehensive employee benefits platform, including a 24/7 online GP. Our people are our greatest asset, and we’ll support you to develop your skills and realise your career ambitions while making a positive difference to others.

About us:

We are a diverse, multicultural university committed to an inclusive culture where everyone is welcomed and respected. We particularly encourage applications from individuals who can help further diversify our community and contribute to an environment where all feel included.

We are dedicated to providing a safe place to study, work and visit, protecting children, young people and adults at risk. Our safeguarding policy, safer recruitment procedures and related guidance are available on our Safeguarding page.
