Applications are invited for five 12-month rotating internships at Leahurst Equine Hospital, a busy UK equine referral centre managing approximately 1,500 elective and emergency cases annually.
Our internship programme is a traditional rotating internship with the benefits of an academic environment. This programme offers the opportunity to experience a variety of disciplines, while also achieving a sustainable team structure and optimum care of our patients.
The Programme
Interns rotate through different services on a weekly basis including soft tissue surgery, medicine, orthopaedics, and diagnostic imaging. Each intern will participate in 1 in 4 or 5* of night shift weeks, and 1 in 4 or 5* weekend day shifts to assist with the busy emergency caseload. (*The out-of-hours rota may change at the hospitals discretion for operational reasons.)
Interns are actively involved in case assessment, advanced diagnostics, inpatient management, emergency admissions, assisting with referral procedures, maintaining clinical and financial records, and supervising undergraduate students.
Our interns are always supported by a team of specialists and residents in training. There is always a surgeon, medic, anaesthetist on duty, in addition to a resident and nurse.
Requirements
Candidates must be MRCVS registered by the start date 1st September 2026
