AiDLab brings together world-leading expertise in artificial intelligence and design to address pressing global challenges. Research is organised across three interdisciplinary programmes with strong industry engagement:
AI in Fashion Design
AI in Textile and Apparel Quality Control
AI in Ergonomic Design
This role focuses on CirculAI Fashion, an innovative AI tool designed to help global fashion brands reduce their environmental footprint through intelligent design decisions. Integrating AI with technical data from every stage of a garment’s lifecycle, CirculAI Fashion supports design teams to transition towards circular, sustainable fashion systems.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with expertise in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a closely related discipline. You will play a central role in delivering high-quality research, collaborating with academic and industry partners, and contributing to the development of AI tools that have real-world impact.
Key responsibilities include:
Conducting rigorous, collaborative research aligned with project objectives.
Developing personal research goals that complement the Centre’s strategic direction.
Preparing and submitting funding proposals with colleagues.
Managing research projects to ensure timely delivery of outputs and impact.
Publishing and presenting research to academic, industry, and public audiences.
Engaging with partner organisations and contributing to knowledge exchange.
Supporting the supervision of junior researchers where appropriate.
Person Specification
Essential:
PhD (or near completion) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related field.
Strong programming skills and experience with deep learning models, particularly Large Language Models.
Evidence of producing high-quality research outputs.
Experience contributing to and reporting on projects.
Understanding of research ethics, integrity, and data management.
Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent communication and presentation skills for varied audiences.
Commitment to the aims of the project and Centre.
Desirable:
Experience in collaborative HE/industry projects.
Understanding of successful grant applications.
Interest in interdisciplinary, design-led approaches.
Why Join Us?
This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of AI and design innovation, contributing to sustainable solutions for the global fashion industry. You’ll join a vibrant research community at the RCA, with access to cutting-edge facilities and an international network of collaborators.
