A two‑year fixed‑term postdoctoral position is available from October 2026 (or earlier) at the University of Warwick, working under the mentorship of Dr Davide Spriano. The position is funded by the Royal Society project “New notions of curvature in group theory”.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Dr Spriano and the Geometric Group Theory group at Warwick, as well as pursue independent research.

You will join an inclusive and flexible team based in the Warwick Mathematics Institute, a world‑leading mathematics department. If desired, you will have opportunities to travel within the UK and abroad, including research visits to collaborating groups and attendance at conferences. You will receive dedicated time and mentoring support to develop your own research profile and broader academic skills.

About You  

You should have (or be due to submit soon) a PhD, or have equivalent experience, with a focus on Geometric Group Theory. Previous knowledge of any of the following topics: is a plus: CAT(0) cube complexes and injective spaces, acylindrical hyperbolicity and Morse boundaries, integral currents and elements of functional analysis. 

You can work effectively in a larger research group and have the ability to communicate its results to the wider research community.

You will have excellent communication and presentation skills, and be comfortable talking about your work with academics from other disciplines and non-specialists. You will have a record of research papers published in journals (or accepted to be published). You will have a high capacity for original research and creative thought, as well as the ability to manage your time effectively across multiple strands of research.

This position is suitable for a finishing PhD student, provided you will have submitted your thesis before the start of this position. 

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure. Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure.
