About the Role
This position will undertake research to realise the objectives and development of the InnovateUK-funded project into “AI-Powered, Nanotech-Enabled Microgrids For Communities And Critical Infrastructure In Ukraine”. The project aims to deliver an intelligent, sustainable, and reliable energy microgrid to support Ukraine’s recovery from war. Queen Mary University of London’s commitment focuses on developing an optimisation framework to configure the microgrid, primarily including the battery storage and solar PV, which supports vital public services, such as water utilities and rural energy communities.

Key responsibilities of this position include i) coordinate with Ukraine in-country partners to collect data and propose use cases of the microgrid ii) develop the optimal sizing method for microgrid using programming software like Python or MATLAB, implement it for case study areas, and iii) prepare research reports and contribute to project discussions.

About You
Applicants must have an Undergraduate Degree in Electrical Engineering, applicants at the PDRA-level must have a PhD (or close to completion) or research qualification/experience equivalent to PhD level, in Electrical Engineering. Candidates should have knowledge in energy management and conducting power systems modelling and optimisation through simulations.

This is a full-time post, also available for part-time or job share. Candidates should clearly indicate their preference on their application. This post may be extended further, subject to further additional funding.
