The Royal College of Art is seeking two outstanding practitioners to join the Fashion MA within the School of Design as Associate Lecturers (0.1 FTE each). These fixed-term roles offer an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the world’s leading postgraduate art and design institutions at a moment of profound change for fashion education and practice.
The School of Design engages with a broad spectrum of contemporary design, from industry-focused innovation to experimental and theoretical inquiry. Our work is underpinned by collaboration across disciplines, a strong research culture, and a commitment to innovation, debate and critical practice.
The RCA Fashion MA has redefined fashion as a system of communication, identity and values rather than solely the production of garments. The programme actively questions extractive industry models and embraces fluidity of gender and identity, the merging of physical and digital worlds, and the exploration of new futures for how we dress, represent ourselves and behave as global citizens. We are committed to leading inclusive, ethical and forward-looking dialogues that shape fashion’s role in an interconnected and uncertain future.
Both posts require the candidates to be deeply engaged with the socio-cultural contexts of fashion, with a strong understanding of the body, identity and representation in global and digital spaces. Candidates should demonstrate an intersectional approach to research and teaching, be well networked internationally, and committed to equality, diversity and inclusive pedagogies.
A Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in fashion or a related field is desirable, along with experience of teaching or supervising at postgraduate level.
These roles are ideal for reflective practitioners eager to shape the next generation of fashion thinkers and leaders.
Associate Lecturers play a vital role in enhancing core teaching through specialist expertise and industry insight. You will contribute to high-quality postgraduate teaching, provide one-to-one and group tutorials, offer constructive feedback, participate in assessment, and support students’ academic and pastoral development. You will also contribute, as appropriate to your fraction, to curriculum development, programme activities, field trips, and the wider academic life of the School.
