The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Tübingen (Institute of Sports Science)
invites applications for an
Assistant Professorship (W 1 without tenure track)
in “Data Science in Sport Economics” (f/m/d)
to be filled at the earliest possible date. The position is initially limited to four years, with the possibility of extension by a further two years after a positive interim evaluation. Following a positive final evaluation and provided that the relevant requirements are met, a permanent lecturer position (Akademischer Rat) may be offered.
We seek a scholar who applies quantitative methods (such as (causal) machine learning) to sport economics research questions in an innovative manner. Evidence of such contributions should be demonstrated through the recognizable potential for publications in leading international journals in (sport) business/economics. A focus on empirically applicable methods in both research and teaching is expected. A commitment to open science practices is welcomed.
The professorship is intended to contribute to collaborative quantitative research at the interface of sports science and business/economics and to run corresponding research projects which fit under the umbrella of the Tübingen Data Science and Sports Lab (here).
The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation and six hours thereafter. The professorship is expected to contribute particularly to the sport management-related programs (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) of the Institute of Sports Science.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field and should have an outstanding dissertation as well as recognizable potential for internationally visible publications in the relevant areas mentioned above and teaching experience. The appointment prerequisites of § 51 LHG apply.
In the course of the contract, the W1 professor is expected to attain the research and teaching achievements that will qualify him or her for an appointment as a tenured professor at any university or equivalent institution.
Those who have completed a habilitation will be excluded.
Detailed information on the criteria for the interim and final evaluations may be found in our guidelines for review here.
The University of Tübingen is committed to equity and diversity and actively promotes equal opportunities. Female academics, in particular, are explicitly invited to apply, as are applicants from outside Germany. Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference.
