Job type: Academic

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher.

The Almeida lab (almeida-lab.com) is recruiting a full-time (35 hours per week) postdoctoral researcher to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurotransmission in vitro and in vivo. We use zebrafish as a model organism to understand mechanisms and roles of non-synaptic forms of neurotransmitter release in the developing nervous system. The post-holder will employ advanced gene-editing strategies in zebrafish embryos, coupled with structural and functional live imaging to uncover the molecular basis and influence of non-synaptic neurotransmitter release from axons (see PMID 34270947 and 39230890) in neural circuits. Additionally, the postholder will bring in vitro mammalian cell culture expertise to extend these investigations into mammalian (including human) neurophysiology.

Your skills and attributes for success:

We are seeking a candidate who is curious about the nervous system, driven, committed to scientific discovery and integrity, and happy to integrate a new, dynamic research team. You will have:

  • PhD in Neuroscience or a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in neurobiological research in vivo and in vitro.
  • Microscopy and image analysis skills.
  • Previous first-author publications in a related subject area.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

People have always been at the heart of our work. As part of the University, you are a part of our community. We are looking for people with drive, determination, and a passion for what they do. We are a place where everyone is welcome and offer a range of policies and benefits designed to support you in building the right work/life balance for you:

  • Professional development and subject matter expertise.
  • Leading-edge research.
  • Opportunities for personal development.
  • Excellent benefits and support.
