The role
The School of Civil, Aerospace and Design Engineering (CADE) is seeking to make a fixed term appointment to the position of Lecturer in Composite Engineering, working in the internationally leading Bristol Composites Institute. Suitable candidates for the post will have a strong academic and/or industrial background in research and teaching. Applicants must demonstrate an excellent knowledge and track record of research in Composites Engineering and demonstrate plans to develop research activities and how this will link to and expand existing research activities the school. This post will support teaching activities in CADE including the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Innovation for Sustainable Composites Engineering, the Aerospace Engineering BEng/MEng and CADE MSc programmes. Specifically the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering Artificial Intelligence teaching in Materials, Structures and/or Manufacturing for the CDT as well as contributing more generally to teaching on lightweight structures and composites engineering.
The Bristol Composites Institute (BCI) was established in 2017, building on the work of the Advanced Composites Collaboration for Innovation and Science, bringing together composites activities across the University of Bristol (about 250 people). Based in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Institute is the UK’s largest composites-focused university research group with strong industrial links for exploitation and technology transfer. BCI research covers a broad range of topics across Advanced engineering for Net Zero, Sustainability and Circularity, Digital innovations, Novel material solutions, and Disruptive manufacturing. It is host to many prestigious activities such as the Rolls-Royce supported Composites University Technology Centre (UTC), a Prosperity Partnership with Vestas, two EPSRC Programme Grants as well as the CDT in Innovation for Sustainable Composites Engineering.
