Reporting To: Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs 

Contract type/duration: Professor level appointee, full time permanent contract, 4-year renewable term as Head of School 

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Provide vision, leadership and innovation to develop and drive the goals of the School of Nursing and Midwifery in education and research in this field locally and internationally. 
  • Develop and deliver a strategic plan for the School aligned with RCSI organisational strategy www.rcsi. com/about/strategy. 
  • Grow research grants and outputs through empowerment, development and support of academic staff in the School and leverage synergies across RCSI and beyond. 
  • Enhance the School’s educational profile through improving on quality of our current programmes whilst looking for new growth opportunities at the post graduate level. 
  • Develop and enhance relationships with our stakeholders, regulators and others relevant bodies. 
  • Actively facilitate and seek to leverage the synergy of educational development in the rich multi-professional and international multi-cultural environment, which is an intrinsic part of RCSI as a specific focus of activity. 
  • Enhance RCSI’s educational profile to become a global leader through the development of novel educational approaches which lead to high impact peer reviewed publications and the development of an active and enthusiastic community of practice and actively promote it. 
  • Drive the development and implementation of novel, personalised educational approaches that leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance learner engagement, adapt to individual needs, and optimise educational outcomes. 
  • Continue to develop evidence-based approaches and involve faculty in producing systematic educational reviews to enhance knowledge but also increase RCSI citations. 
  • Develop and support an active cadre of career educationalists through supervision of higher degrees, e.g. PhDs, by traditional and research tracks. 
  • Develop and support the educational research groupings across RCSI in the strategic areas of Population Health and Health Services and Nursing & Midwifery 
  • Actively seek research funding nationally and internationally. 
  • Develop partnerships and networks that promote the School’s vision through educational innovation and research. 
  • Contribute to reputational enhancement in the field of nursing and midwifery by representing RCSI at various conferences and events. 
  • Manage an inter-disciplinary team of academics, researcher and professional services staff in the School. 

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE 

  • Hold an appropriate higher-level degree such as PhD, Prof Doc or ED Doc relevant to this post. 
  • Be registered, or eligible for registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland. 
  • Significant experience in Nursing and Midwifery education, including leading and innovating on education programme. 
  • Has an in-depth knowledge of current issues and opportunities in the field. 
  • Have a strong track record of senior authorship in high impact peer-reviewed publications in education, research, clinical practice in the field of nursing and or midwifery.
