The School of Medicine wishes to appoint a new Clinical Lecturer (Education Focused). Appointment at Senior Clinical Lecturer may be possible, dependent on experience. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be embedded in the delivery of the exciting new MBChB at St Andrews (ScotCOM; Scottish Community Orientated Medicine). They will have access to potential future development opportunities within the School, and be involved in School education functions across years, aligned to an Education Focused Clinical Lecturer position.
MBChB (ScotCOM) is an innovative community orientated five-year programme, promoting general-ism alongside secondary care exposure, ensuring to place patients at the centre of the students’ learning. Graduation of the first cohort is anticipated in 2028, with a target of 55 students per academic year. Students complete the existing BSc (Hons) programme for the first 2.5 years, with bespoke content thereafter.
Successful applicants will initially focus on overseeing the fourth year of this new programme, as a “module controller”. I.e. guiding content development, delivery, assessment and quality assurance. Fourth year encompasses placements centred around urgent care (A+E, ICU, acute paediatrics), General Practice, and a community hospital hub.
Role holders will work for the School three days per week and will be committed to delivering high quality medical education. There may be flexibility within FTE to facilitate clinical working.
The candidate should be clinically qualified and have a background as a generalist or urgent care physician. Candidates must be practising in a substantive clinical post to qualify for the Clinical salary scale. NHS Fife clinical sessions may be available if required, and can be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Excellent teaching skills and an interest in promoting knowledge exchange are essential.
Informal enquiries can be directed to the MBChB Programme Director; Dr Rebecca Walmsley (ram29@st-andrews.ac.uk).
The role holder needs to be practising in a substantive clinical setting to qualify for the Clinical salary scale. This will be discussed at interview and prior to any offer of employment.
