About us

The Children of the 2020s is a major nationally representative birth cohort study commissioned by the Department for Education. You will be joining a dynamic team in the Research Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology at UCL, working with Ipsos, the Centre for Longitudinal Studies and colleagues in Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

About the role

The department is seeking a Research Fellow (maternity cover) for a fixed term of one year.

The Research Fellow has a crucial role to play in supporting the study leadership team and wider group of investigators in managing the day-to-day objectives of the study in close collaboration with the Ipsos fieldwork agency and the Department for Education. Key duties will include supporting the delivery of the study smartphone app, BabySteps, managing the development and delivery of the study instruments, writing research protocols, preparing submissions for ethical review and carrying out data analysis and writing progress and scientific reports.

The salary offered is £45,103- £47,451. Appointment at Grade 7- Research Fellow, is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary £39,148 - £41,833 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis. To be considered eligible for this post, applicants must have formally submitted their PhD thesis and must either have successfully completed their viva examination or have an agreed viva date scheduled before the post’s commencement date.

About you

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in social science, psychology or other relevant discipline. They will be responsible for supporting the management of all aspects of the study that UCL has primary responsibility for and for working closely with Ipsos to ensure smooth coordination of the project as a whole. The post-holder will need to have excellent organisational, communication and liaison skills, experience in working on longitudinal studies, managing surveys and conducting longitudinal data analyses. Strong IT skills will also be essential.
