About us:
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures is a vibrant, interdisciplinary unit that offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Modern Languages and Comparative Literature. We have four major degree languages (French, German, Spanish, Portuguese), but teach and research across five continents and over 2,500 years of literature, culture and history. Academics across the department examine languages and literatures as transnational phenomena in a global context, seeking to further the understanding of their cultural and societal impact.
About the role:
The King's Early Career Development Fellowships provide promising early career academics with opportunities to develop as an educator and researcher in departments across the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Applicants must be within seven years of their doctorate at the time of application. Funding for the posts is short-term and non-renewable; they do not fulfil a long-term need in the faculty.
Fellows will be encouraged to submit an external research grant application in the final year of their fellowship as a directly-incurred Principal Investigator. If successful in their application and if appropriate, the research projected will be hosted at King's in the fellow's department.
The fellowship is intended to help the development of an early career scholar. It cannot be renewed at the conclusion of the period of the appointment. The fellow will not be eligible for internally funded research leave during their fellowship. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities has a particular interest in engaged research, and provides opportunities for scholars to develop the potential of their research across multiple fields and audiences.
The Fellow in Languages, Literatures and Cultures (Spanish and Latin American Studies) will conduct research, produce research publications, deliver teaching, and provide administrative and pastoral support for the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King's. They will contribute undergraduate teaching in Spanish and Latin American cultural studies, offering modules such as 5AASB006 The Study of Gender in Spanish American Literature and Culture or 6AASC006 Myth and Archive: Historical Fiction in Spanish America. They will also teach on the MA Critical Theory and contribute to first-year introductory modules in Comparative Literature, and they may be asked to undertake some language teaching in Spanish.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract until 31 August 2028.
